Befuddled has a selection of Special Abilities to help you get further into the game.  Some are available immediately, and some become unlocked at higher levels.  They show up in the top-left corner of the screen.

To use a special ability, earn coins (shown near the top center of the screen) by spelling words.  Then select an ability by clicking the arrow on the right side of the button and choosing an active item.  Click the main part of the button to activate the ability.

Abilities that you can't use (because they're too expensive or not applicable) are greyed out.

Special Abilities in Befuddled include:

1. •Small and Big Bombs: The small bomb destroys the currently-selected tile.  The large bomb also destroys those tiles surrounding it.
   

2. •Change Materials: Changes the currently-selected tile to the specified tile type (wood, marble, jade, glass, or ruby).
   

3. •Buy Tiles: Add additional tiles to your reserve when you're running low.
   

4. •Move x2 Multiplier: Moves the x2 score multiplier onto the current word.
   You must have a valid word selected to use this!
   

5. •Scramble Tiles: Scrambles all the tiles on the board (except blanks).
   

6. •Kill Tiles By Texture: Destroys all tiles of the currently-selected type.
